Awesome post man, been waiting for this!

Did you get any morsels of info on faction playstyles? Or can we infer that the Scourge are similar to their ground counterparts, and the UCM are slightly tanky? (our regular cruiser had better armour than the Scourge heavy, and only 2 less DP) Just some thoughts, it's probably way too vague to make these comments I suppose!

Looks nice and simple, but not simplistic.

I mention some of the faction playstyles in my article:

"UCM will rely on weight of numbers and brute force; the Scourge will have shorter ranges but intense attacks; PHR will be tough ships that unleash brutal firepower from the middle of the scrum; and the Shaltari will be fragile-but-tricky buggers who employ force fields and strange energy weapons to devastating effect."

I don't have a whole lot of information beyond that, but I do know a bit. My feeling is the factions will not be quite as "niche focused" as they were/are in DZC. UCM is definitely the horde fleet, and a probably going to be tanky by virtue of lower points costs and decent armor.

Scourge, like in DZC, wanna get close for the full effect of their guns; the ship I saw in the demo, however, had a better save than the UCM crusier, though I don't know if this is because it was a heavy cruiser and the UCM ship was a regular cruiser.

PHR is not going to be "slow" per se - as Dave mentioned, there's no such thing in space, really. He did mention they want to get into the middle, as they are the faction that uses broadside strategies most. I think as an extension of that they are going to be pretty tough to survive those sorts of exchanges.

Shaltari ships are going to be the "shenanagins" faction, with ships that are pretty lightly armored. They will probably rely on stealth to maneuver into firing range and want to stay at range, where they can use their weird "energy cloud" weapons and avoid being overwhelmed by Close Action attacks. They are also the only faction with force fields, but when the Shaltari activate shields they "light up like a Christmas tree;" based on what little I know that probably means they have some sort of permanent energy spike while running it, meaning everyone can fire on them.

Can the group photo of the UCM ship be the UCM starter..?

My understanding is that is probably *not* the starter. Dave mentioned the starters would include a couple frigates and a couple cruisers (the medium sized ships pictured). The Beijing (big ship in the middle) is a battleship, which will be resin per Dave, and the small ships pictured are strike carriers and so may not be included either.

My personal expectation is a configuration much like the core 4 starters for DZC:

3 Cruisers (similar to the med dropships you get in each core starter)
4-6 frigates (basically 2 squads, so like the armor choices you get in each starter)
3 strike carriers (replacing infantry choices in the starter)

Based on what Dave and Simon told me, an average game size would be roughly the contents of 2 starters, plus a big ship like the Beijing (like a command choice in DZC) and a few specialty ships (like light dropships or scouts in DZC), so it makes sense to me.

Great info! Thank you! :)

Thank you! And sorry for missing this, must have gone blind!

To be honest I'm not sure how I feel about UCM being the horde fleet... I was expecting a medium sized fleet that's slow but has good armour and/or above average DP, as it would keep in line with their philosophy of minimising casualties, that said, I'm liking the brute force bit haha.

Regardless, I'll still be backing the Reconquest as always (albeit with terrible dice rolls) :D

I really like how it doesn't seem to just be DzC in space, but definitely provide different types of tactics compared to the DzC armies.
