Fix for sealed air bubbles in Shaltari mins

Hello one and all.

I was very lucky and got an early batch of Shaltari. The only problem I had was that there were some sealed air bubbles in some of the mins. Most notable in the fins of the gate ships making them very bendy.
Now I sure as heck did not want to wait around for new parts so I got right down to it and fixed it myself.

I have had something similar in a recent order so I thought I would put this up as a handy how to article.

It is really very easy and here is what I did.

First hold up your mins to the light to see if there are any hidden air bubbles.
(If there is a broken air bubble on the tip of the fin then there is a good bet there is a hidden one at the base.)

The open bubble is easy to fix with a bit of green stuff and a little shaping.

The hidden one you will want to make a little cut with a craft knife on the side of the fin where it is nice and smooth.
(be careful cos there is no resistance and you don’t want to damage it )
Now using a pin (or cut down paper clip) fixed in the vice like grip of a craft knife handle pack the space full of green stuff. Again be careful you don’t poke a hole all the way though
It is quite easy to see the progress of the green stuff in the gap.

Once the space is packed you can now smooth out the green stuff around the cut and all is good.

Good idea, using light to see through the part.

What I be would work well is two part epoxy in a hypodermic syringe.

I used a syringe loaded with cianocrilate

Nice idea I like it :D

But for me I like the green stuff as it gives a nice easy to manage finish that is not super sticky or messy

Not sure what Cianocrilate is? Is it that liquid green stuff?

Cyanoacrilate is superglue.

Evidently there are some versions that are well-suited to gap-filling? I'm assuming those are extra-thick, but don't have as much stickiness going on?

'Gel' superglue will fill gaps but can be just as sticky.

Sorry, I wasn't sure if you called it superglue. Making a small hole, filling the bubble with cyanocrilate and adding a drop of activator works great, I recommend it. The glue cristalizes fast and fills the whole bubble with a sturdy finish. But you must use a liquid activator for the superglue.

I did use superglue for some smaller holes but for bigger hidden cavities I feel it is to brittle and very sticky not to mention the possibility of air bubbles.
But to all their own but for me I will keep packing it full of green stuff :D
